Sliding Door Hardware Secret

Everybody loves a secret.  And secret doors that slide unobtrusively into a wall when open add functionality and charm to a room, while adding privacy when closed.  Pocket door systems can be used in either new home construction or remodeling an existing space.  They add both virtual and actual space to a room, and work where a conventional door may be awkward or inconvenient.

But homeowners remodeling an existing space may be worried about the perceived complexity of installing pocket doors.

Not to worry.  Pocket doors are made to fit in any size space, in a wall as narrow as 4”, with an opening narrow as a single width door or wide as half the room.  The necessary sliding door hardware is included, along with instructions for installation.

Any home improvement project requires some precision, and a door project requires you to get the door furniture to operate correctly.  Some steps are easier than others, and it always helps to know the secrets and tricks of the trade.

But the biggest secret in installing pocket doors is to get the rough opening right.  If you do that, the rest of the installation will go smoothly.

The old adage “Measure twice, cut once” is especially applicable to this project.  If the rough opening is wrong, the rest of the project will be a nightmare.  Double check all instructions and measurements—more than once.  Don’t be intimidated.   Take one step at a time and you’ll be surprised by what you can do once you know the secret.
